New Administrator

With great joy and gratitude, the Beacon Haven Board of Trustees is pleased to introduce Bonnie Fanz as the new Administrator for Beacon Haven and its Christian Science nursing services.

Bonnie Fanz is the new Administrator for Beacon Haven.

“Bonnie is ideally qualified to serve our community in this new role,” said Judy Norden Olson, president of the Board of Trustees. “During her decades supporting the mission of Beacon Haven and its predecessor Clifton House, Bonnie has served as both a Christian Science nurse directly caring for patients, as well as in the administrative office supporting patient families and processing the volumes of paperwork required to support the work of our Christian Science nurses. All of us are so very grateful for Bonnie and her service.”

Others have echoed that praise, including the most recent people to serve in the administrator position before Bonnie.

“Throughout my years of working closely with her, I could always rely on Bonnie to uphold the highest ethical and legal principles.”

She was a big help in getting our staff through the ever-changing policies.”

“Bonnie was such a help and resource during my time at Beacon Haven that it would be a natural fit to see her in an Administration role.”

Elizabeth (Liz) Harned, Beacon Haven Administrator from 2011 to 2016

My mom has been a devout Christian Scientist his entire life.  At a time when my mother had her own human needs to be met, our family is so incredibly grateful she has been able to find care at Beacon Haven.

The atmosphere of thought at Beacon Haven is so conducive to healing…everyone is on the same page with the goal of healing.  You can feel the joy and gratitude and most importantly love every time I walk through the door.  My mom’s human needs are always being met.

Mrs. Eddy once told a student that the best way to obtain instant healing ‘is to love, to be loved, and to live love.’ You have that instantaneous healing thought at Beacon Haven.  It is very substantive at Beacon Haven.

Our family is very grateful to you.  Thank you so much for being there for us.

Our mission

The mission of Clifton House, Inc (dba Beacon Haven) is to support proper care and an expectancy of healing through Christian Science nursing.

Beacon Haven provides a wide range of services to support those who rely on Christian Science for healing, including both facility-based and visiting Christian Science nursing care.

Incorporated in 1921 as Star of Bethlehem Home, Beacon Haven continues a long-tradition of community funded Christian Science nursing as a practical, spiritual ministry that actively supports the patient’s decision to rely on Christian Science for healing.

About Christian Science Nursing

Christian Science nursing is a practical, spiritual ministry that actively supports the patient’s decision to rely on Christian Science for healing. It is grounded in the Bible-based theology of Christian Science, which includes Christ Jesus’ commandment to love one another (see John 15:12). This ministry is carried out with prayer, wisdom, compassion, and skill.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, in a portrait that hangs at Beacon Haven

The founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, established the authority and standard for the Christian Science nurse in 1908 in the Manual of The Mother Church (Article VIII, Section 31):

Christian Science Nurse. A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick. The cards of such persons may be inserted in The Christian Science Journal under rules established by the publishers.

Manual of The Mother Church (Article VIII, Section 31)

Christian Science Nursing. Christian Science nurses provide skilled, practical care that is grounded in the spiritual healing method of Christian Science.  The Christian Science nurse’s standard of care rests squarely on the Bible, especially the Ten Commandments and the teachings of Christ Jesus, and on Mary Baker Eddy’s writings.

Christian Science gives an idea of who and what we are as “made in God’s image.” The reason that Christian Science treatment or prayer heals is that it opens human thought to God’s infinite goodness, which includes no sickness, evil, or fear, and to God’s man, who is deserving of all good. Christian Science treatment persists in affirming the presence of God and man made in His image and likeness.

Christian Science Practitioners. All persons admitted to Beacon Haven must be under the care of a Christian Science practitioner listed in the current issue of The Christian Science Journal.

Christian Science nursing care at Beacon Haven includes:

Spiritual Reassurance. Acknowledging God’s all-presence and absolute power; faithful and consistent affirmation of a patient’s real, spiritual nature.

Personal Care. Assistance with bathing, commoding, oral care, feeding, moving, handling, positioning in a chair or bed; help with the use of wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and other aids.

Dressing/Bandaging. Proper cleansing and bandaging for cleanliness, protection, and comfort, and teaching the patient or others to meet these needs.

Reading Aloud. Reading from the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and other authorized Christian Science literature to support healing and spiritual progress.

Christian Support. Gently offering assistance in support of the patient’s expression of vitality and normal activity.
