At the 1922 Annual Meeting of her Student’s Association on August 22, Miss Abigail Dyer Thompson proposed the name for the new organization created to build a facility dedicated to those reylying on Christian Science for healing. Miss Thompson proposed “Star of Bethlehem Home” as the name for the new organization. This suggestion was received with hearty approval from the student body.

This account of events is taken from Miss Thompson’s collected personal notes preserved in the archives of the Clifton House, Inc (dba Beacon Haven), the succesor organization to Star of Bethlehem Home. In those notes is a copy of the “Star of Bethlehem” poem by M. L. Smith, published in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1922.
One month after accepting Miss Thompson’s proposal for the name, the Board of Trustees filed the the Certificate of Incorporation for the Star of Bethlehem Home with the Secretary of State of Minnesota on September 20, 1922.
