Christian Science

The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science is LOVE.

– Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, defined Christian Science as “the law of God, the law of good . . . ” (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). In her discovery, Mrs. Eddy learned that God is infinite Love, and completely good. A clear glimpse of this through prayer has power to heal and transform anyone.

Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis

The following is exerpted from the Second Church website.

Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis, Minnesota was founded in 1897 by two students of Mary Baker Eddy: Mrs. Emma Thompson and her daughter, Miss Abigail Dyer Thompson. Both became Christian Science practitioners and then Christian Science teachers.

Miss Thompson visited Mrs. Eddy at one time to discuss the growth and status of Christian Science in Minneapolis.  During that visit, Mrs. Eddy shared that she perceived the need for another Christian Science Church in Minneapolis and instructed the mother and daughter to establish one immediately.

From the outset, the mission of Second Church was to fully and accurately present to humankind the comforting and healing power of Divine Love. This mission was to be accomplished by the practical, active demonstration of Christian Science as taught by Mary Baker Eddy, revealed through her study of the Bible and explained in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Prayer, healing, and unity of purpose were to guide this church in all its work.

Mrs. Eddy wrote these encouraging words to Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis, Minnesota:

“Beloved: — The spiritual dominates the temporal. Love gives nothing to take away. Nothing dethrones His house. You are dedicating yours to Him. Protesting against error, you unite with all who believe in Truth. God guard and guide you.”
